Week 1: Introduction to Nutrition Coaching

Updated: Aug 15

"He who has a why to live can bear almost any how."

Friedrich Nietzsche

Encourage: Starting a wellness journey can feel overwhelming, but you don't need to transform everything overnight. Give yourself grace; today is simply your baseline, not your final destination.

  • Practical Example: Reminding yourself, "I don't need to clear out my entire pantry today; I just need to focus on eating one balanced meal.”

Educate: Sustainable progress relies on knowing your personal "Why" and setting realistic parameters using SMART goals (Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, Time-bound). Understanding your total daily energy expenditure (TDEE) and basal metabolic rate (BMR) gives you the baseline map for your body.

  • Practical Example: Instead of a vague goal like "I want to lose weight," you set a SMART goal: "I will lose 10 pounds by the end of 90 days by reducing my daily calorie intake to 1,500 calories and exercising 3 times per week for 30 minutes".

Empower: Calculate your estimated TDEE and log every meal and drink for the next 3 days—without changing how you normally eat—to build honest awareness.

  • Practical Example: Using an app like MyFitnessPal, NutritionIX, or Lose It! to log your morning coffee exactly as you drink it, including the creamer and sugar, just to see the data.

Elevate: Move away from short-term fixes and view tracking not as a restriction, but as daily feedback that puts you in total command of your health.

  • Practical Example: Reviewing your food log at the end of the week and realizing, "Now I see why my energy dips at 3 PM," rather than feeling guilty about what you ate.
